Small Town Fun at the Staten Island Zoo

Welcome to this month's Blogorail Peach Loop. Today we are discussing zoos that your family needs to visit.

Living in New York City, I have a group of terrific zoos practically in my back yard. Two of the most famous zoos, the Bronx Zoo and the Central Park Zoo, are less than an hour away. While they are both amazing zoos, the zoo I was most excited about visiting with my newborn is the Staten Island Zoo.

Never heard of it? I'm not surprised! The Staten Island Zoo is a small zoo in the West Brighton section of Staten Island and it's a gem that often gets overlooked.

Stuck in the Middle with IBD

Editors Note: A version of this post appeared on Caring for Crohn's, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Blog that I contribute to. In the future, I will be reposting articles I write for that site here. I hope you enjoy hearing about this important side of my life.

When I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis nearly a decade ago, I was told my case was “mild” and I should go on living my life. I had no idea what I was in for at that point. In fact, I was relieved to find out it was ulcerative colitis (which seems laughable at this point) after being told for more than five years that it was “all in my head” and I just needed to relax. I was told to take Asacol and resume my normal activities. As it turns out (I’m sure you’ll be shocked by this) I couldn’t resume my normal activities.

Disney Parks - Worth the Price of Admission

Over the July 4th weekend, my family and I traveled to Long Beach Island on the Jersey Shore. It was a wonderful, relaxing weekend and my son Ryan did great during his first extended trip away from home.

Traveling with babies? Use a grocery delivery service!

Welcome to this month's Blogorail Black Loop. Today we are sharing our must haves when we are traveling with little ones.

This weekend, I'm heading down the Jersey Shore for a little rest and relaxation. That used to mean packing a small bag with a bathing suit, a few pairs of shorts and a few tee shirts, but with a six month old, that means that we've been packing the car for two days.

If you had to add one more item to our mid-sized sedan, I honestly don't think you'd find the space. And that is precisely why, in November when we travel to Walt Disney World for eight days, we're using a grocery delivery service.
