Dining at the California Grill

Welcome to those of you joining me from The Magical Mouse Pad and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the final stop on our Magical Blogorail.

The way to my heart is through my stomach. It's somewhat unfortunate but certainly true.

When I was a child traveling to Walt Disney World, we would plan our trips around our dining reservations. We always had a variety of restaurants we'd visit year after year. Our family would dine at the signature restaurants, we'd dine at buffets and we'd dine at dinner entertainment shows such as the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.

There was always one restaurant that made my eyes light up and made my heart skip a beat: The  California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

The experience at the California Grill is unlike any other at the Walt Disney World Resort. Quite often, when visiting the California Grill, we spent the day at the Magic Kingdom. After cleaning up, we'd hop on the monorail and enter the Contemporary in the coolest way possible. While the California Grill stands proudly at the top of the Contemporary Resort, your experience starts on the second floor of the resort. There is a simple podium, pretty much in the middle of no where, where you check in for your reservation.  Don't be shy to ask for a window view. They may not be able to accommodate you, but it's always worth the ask! After your reservation is confirmed, a Cast Member escorts you to an express elevator to the 15th floor.

A little early for your reservation? That's perfect actually! The California Grill staff will gladly set you up with a drink and a few appetizers in the lounge area of the restaurant. Always be sure to check your watch. What time are the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom? If they are prior to your reservation, be sure to mosey on out to the amazing platforms to watch the show. The coolest part? The music from the fireworks show are piped in. It's like being in the park without all the hustle and bustle, and all the amazing drinks!

Are you dining super early and miss the fireworks? That's not a problem either, actually. Hold on to your receipt and bring it to the check-in desk on the 2nd floor prior to the start of the show. The Cast Members will escort you back up to the 15th floor to watch the show from the outside observation deck.

The cherry on top of this amazing experience? A gourmet restaurant experience. While the restaurant is undergoing a massive refurbishment, here is a brief description of the fare:
"Californian cuisine celebrates fresh, seasonal ingredients and the international, melting-pot culture of the Golden State. Changing seasonally, the menu may include such specialties as handmade Sonoma goat cheese ravioli, steamed mussels and oak-grilled filet of beef.

Delight in mouthwatering sushi, as well as brick oven-fired flatbreads topped with roasted chicken and caramelized onions, sun-dried tomatoes and three cheeses, or black beans and braised pork. Then polish off a perfect meal with decadent desserts like warm Valrhona chocolate cake, cheesecake and fruit cobbler."
All in all, the California Grill is an experience that should NOT be missed! Have you enjoyed the California Grill in the past? Tell me about your experience in the comment section!
